Big Oil already leases huge tracts of federal land; giving it more won't help

Why the McCain drill-more-oil campaign is pure flim flam

Here they come--America's Drill Team! Out front are the two high-strutting leaders, John McCain and George W, thrusting their drum-major batons and chanting "Drill! Drill! Drill!" Right behind them are the famous Marching Lobbyists of Big Oil, and--look!--prancing alongside are House minority leader John Boehner and the Merry Pranksters of the Republican caucus, doing a precision routine of call and response:

"Alaska's wildlife refuge!" shouts Boehner. "Drill it!" barks the caucus.

"America's seacoasts!" hollers Boehner. "Drill 'em!" booms the caucus.

"The White House lawn!" shrieks Boehner. "That, too!" cries the caucus.

And the lobbyists break out in a synchronized grin.

DISCUSS THIS ARTICLE

oil

I like your thinking on most things, but I think you have missed the point on the oil issue.
Most people don't care what oil costs, we are trired of sending money to crazy people that want to kill us (even though we have taken over Atab countries and try to tell them how to live and take their oil).
We have hundreds of years of oil supply and oil is renewable (the earth makes it every day).
The AWNR has no wild life, there has never been an accident in Alaska oil pipe line. It is ours and we should get it out.
We have no oil policy in this country, except for what the oil companies dictate and Democrats and
Republicans kiss up and do what they are told. We need to develop and support new oil corporations that work for the US instead of stock holders.
We need to support Brazil to purchase their oil when mvailable in 3 years.
Besides help in developing solar and wind, we need a national effort to develop fuel cell vehicles (like we did in the space progarm) and then give the technology to every car company in the world (don't give it to the big three auto companies because they will treat it like corporate welfare)
I know you think that democrats will solve the problems of this country but you are wrong. Both parties are helping this great nation with great people (outside the belt way) go down the toilet. Obama is an Arab and Muslim without the values to save this nation economic system. He will just tax and spend the middle class into poverty. McCain is better than Bush but not much better. Four more years of both parties will see us in worse shape than today if that is possible.
Ron Paul is the only person with a plan that might save our way of life. We are like the Roman empire and it will not get better.

"Obama is an Arab and Muslim

"Obama is an Arab and Muslim without the values to save this nation economic system."

The sign of an ignorant, misinformed NeoCon. I suppose you believe this country was founded as a Christian Nation and agree with Palin that it's God's will to win in the Middle East:

As for oil being renewable....it took MILLIONS OF YEARS to get the current oil supply we have.

I wish I had the last 2 minutes of my life back from reading his post.

Oil

Dr Bob should check his fats about no accidents or oil spills. And they were not all due to drunken men shooting at the pipes, allowing oil to flow for days before it was discovered!!!
Keep in mind that drilling for oil does not involve just the site but the roads, infrastructure etc..... where accidents occur and they destroy the environment for miles and miles.
We won't even mention the Exxon Valdez.....

Clean Energy

The more committed we become to clean energy as a nation, the better off we are — environmentally and economically. Let's get to it NOW!

Across America Clean Energy Is Stirring

America is in peril. Obama says he is the man to fix the problems. And the most powerful tool at his disposal is developing a clean energy, good jobs economy that ends America’s addiction to foreign oil, rebuilds what he called the “American promise,” and clears the sky of global warming pollutants.

“For the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as president,” Obama declared during his Democratic Convention acceptance speech that was tempered and specific. “In ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East.”

Obama added moments later: “I'll invest 150 billion dollars over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy - wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and five million new jobs that pay well and can't ever be outsourced. America, now is not the time for small plans.”

Never before has a presidential candidate expressed such profound conviction in America’s capacity to change how it produces and uses energy in order to scale up a vast new clean and green industrial sector.

The more energy we use, especially foreign oil, the weaker and poorer we’re becoming. America never has had a presidential candidate who has both understood this and dared to say in such unmistakable words that he’s prepared to actually make significant changes.
