REAL CHANGE
(not small change)
LEGISLATION: Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) is sponsoring H.R. 730—The Human Dignity Act. It would provide the U.S. minimum wage for workers in the Commonwealth, make sweatshop owners comply with our immigration laws, require that a Made-in-the-USA label can only be used by factories complying with all U.S. labor laws. Call the congressional switchboard (202-224-3121), ask for your lawmakers, and tell them to support H.R. 730.
AGITATION: The Gap is an industry leader and does the most business in the Mariana Islands. Contact The Gap (800-333-7899) and tell them to support H.R. 730 and to stop trying to fool us consumers with Made-in-the-USA labels on sweatshop garments from the Northern Mariana Islands. Send a fax to the CEO of The Gap, Mr. Donald Fisher: 415-427-7007.
INFORMATION: Contact Global Exchange, a California-based anti-sweatshop watchdog and a plaintiff in another lawsuit against the corporate Mob. Call: 415-255-7296. E- mail: juliette@globalexchange.org. Web site: www.globalexchange.org.
