We can do clean energy

Our publicly owned electric utility here in Texas' capital city, Austin Energy, is shifting our energy sources from gas, nuclear, and coal to renewable sources, including wind, solar, and biogas, combined with an aggressive conservation program.

Austinites already purchase more kilowatt hours of green power than any other city in the country—most of it generated by wind farms in West Texas—but our utility isn't doing this merely to be nice to Mother Nature: Wind power is now even cheaper than electricity generated by natural gas. Austin expects to get 20 percent of its electricity from wind and other renewable sources by 2020.

Right here in Bush's backyard, we're proving that our nation's energy, environmental, and economic future need not be tethered to the oil, coal, and other fossilfuel industries that write his energy policies. To learn more, call the Solar Austin Campaign: 512-477-1155.
